Frequently Asked Questions
Our Jewelry
Q. Is your jewelry really
one-of-a-kind?
Each piece of designer jewelry is unique. We limit our supplies of
certain jewelry elements to ensure that each piece is the only one
of its kind. In addition, because we use semi-precious minerals in
many of our designs, nature helps. The beautiful stones and beads
that are part of our designs are one-of-a-kind as a result
of their origins in nature. We may use similar materials in
different designs or a similar design of different
materials and components, but each is one-of-a-kind.

Q. Can I purchase two or more of
the same jewelry item?
Your Jewelry Box purchases limited quantities of jewelry
components. We take pride in creating unique jewelry designs –
one-of-a-kind. A similar design may be made in other materials or
the same materials may be used in other designs. However, if you have a
specific request, please contact us.

Q. Can you make a pair of earrings to
match the necklace I bought?

Q. How should I care for my
jewelry?
Your Jewelry Box designs and makes jewelry from a variety of
materials. Here are some suggestions for keeping you jewelry looking
its best:
Precious metals – sterling silver or
gold fill: Use a jewelry polishing cloth to remove
tarnish – a natural occurrence – and restore shine. Chemically
treated cloths are available at jewelry and department stores.
Do not use a chemically treated cloth on the following stones: amber,
coral, emerald, ivory, jadeite, lapis, malachite, opal, pearls
or turquoise.
Semi-precious minerals:
Periodically wipe the material carefully with a soft, clean
cloth to remove oils and fingerprints.
Glass, crystal, etc.: Wipe
with a soft, clean cloth to keep them sparkling.
CAUTION:
Perfume, oil, lotion etc. should applied only to skin your
jewelry will not touch. These products can discolor the
materials or reduce their luster.

Q. What is a cabochon?
Cabochon refers to the way a gemstone is cut. It indicates that
the stone is smooth, shaped and polished with a flat back. It is
most often the cut of choice for opaque and translucent stones, in
contrast to clear gems which are usually faceted.

Q. Where do your stones comes
from?
The semi-precious stones and beads we use come from all over the
world. For example, we currently feature Larimar which is found only
in the Dominican Republic; Turquoise from Tibet, Arizona, and
Mexico; and Ocean Jasper from Mexico, but which is also found off
the coasts of many other countries. Bill's experience in lapidary -
the craft of stone cutting and polishing - provides us with the
ability to find the best semi-precious stones.
In addition, we use crystals from Austria, bone beads from India
and Africa, and other materials from around the world.

Q. You refer to the size of
stones and beads in millimeters (mm). What does that mean in inches?
Millimeters are the standard used to measure lapidary work - cut
and polished stones and beads. Here's a quick and easy way to
estimate the size of stones or beads: 25 millimeters (mm) equal 1
inch.
